We are very pleased that the Planning Inspector has dismissed the appeal (Ref: APP/U1430/W/25/3372099) against Rother District Council’s refusal of planning permission for an additional holiday lodge at Downash Wood Treehouses. This was on the edge of Bewl Water.
The Inspector concluded that the proposal would harm the character and appearance of the area, including the High Weald National Landscape, by introducing urbanising development into an otherwise largely undeveloped, tranquil stretch of countryside near the Bewl Water path. Protecting this sense of rurality, quiet and immersion in nature was given great weight in the decision.
This is an important result for everyone who cares about protecting Bewl Water’s wildlife and the recreational activities. We give a big thank you to all the councillors and residents who took the time to object and speak up for this special place.
