We are delighted to share the news that the planning application for Downash has today been refused by Rother District Council’s Planning Committee.
This is a significant win for the landscape, wildlife, and all who value the peace and natural beauty of Bewl Water.
We extend our heartfelt thanks and congratulations to everyone who contributed to this outcome:
- 👏 To those who spoke so eloquently at the committee meeting—your words made a real impact.
- 👏 To the more than 20 supporters who attended the public gallery—your presence sent a powerful message.
- 👏 And to everyone who submitted an objection—your voices were heard.
Despite what appeared to be considerable pressure from planning officers to approve the application, councillors recognised the importance of protecting this tranquil and ecologically sensitive site. They voted to refuse the application, standing up for the values we all share.
This result is a testament to what we can achieve when we come together as a community to protect what matters.
Well done, and thank you all.
Let’s continue working together to keep Bewl Water wild, peaceful, and protected for generations to come.
